Derrick Goold Talks Wainwright’s Potential 2015 Return

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch joined The Ryan Kelley Morning After on Tuesday to talk several Cardinals topics following the team losing four of the past five games.

We typed up a few excerpts from the interview, which you can listen to by clicking below.

On Adam Wainwright potentially pitching again in 2015:

“Adam has wanted to push and push and push. The team has said…let’s take it easy, this is an eight-month recovery. But he has just wanted the chance this year. He’s said, ‘Look, if I feel good, what’s the reason to stop?’ He said all the nightmares and horror stories he’s heard about the recovery process, he hasn’t felt that. Throwing off the mound is one thing. But fielding his position is another. He tore the achilles and every motion with the foot is going to involve that.”

Wouldn’t you want to see if he can pitch if you have a chance at winning a World Championship?

“I think there would be a lot of a fear of a setback. They have a lot of money invested in him and a lot of hope he has a completely healthy…2016. It’s interesting because, what role would he have (in the postseason)? He obviously has experience (in the bullpen). He’s been very successful as a reliever in October. So there’s some intrigue there, obviously.”
