Cardinals first-round pick Nick Plummer, a Michigan high school outfielder ranked No. 11 overall by Baseball America, joined The Daily Wrap on Tuesday to talk about being drafted, his draft-day experience and his thoughts on being taken by the Red Birds.
We’ve typed out a couple quotes from the interview below. Listen to the whole thing here:
what are your thoughts about the cardinals? being from michigan, did you hope the tigers would take you?
“It would have been cool to get drafted by Detroit, but I can tell you right now I’m thrilled to be with the Cardinals and I think it’s the best position I can be in, to be with the Cardinals. Great historic ball club and I think I can bring something to the table pretty soon.”
What do you feel you want to work on?
“I wouldn’t say I have any weaknesses. If anything, it’s my arm. I’m just ready to sharpen every tool and ready to be a true five-tool player. I’m excited to get with the Cardinals and go day-to-day, working each tool and making baseball my job. I don’t nearly get the reps I need now during the winter. With baseball being my job now, that’s all I got to worry about.”
Have you thought about the first thing you’ll buy with your money?
“Not really. It’s less the money and more just being drafted by the Cardinals. I had no clue they were going to pick me. For them to have the confidence in me…it says something. I’m more appreciative of that than the money.”
